Job Title: Business Planner
Type of Company: I work for an electronics company that works on weather devices, appliances and radar equipment.
Education: AS, Business, Northeastern University
Previous Experience: I worked as a manager for an importing company for fourteen years, but later pursued a business career in an electronics firm.
Job Tasks: I maintain a budget for over a hundred people, assist managers and keep my department running smoothly. I maintain various records, timecard audits, modified time reports, department reviews and keep our manloading up-to-date. Manloading into a system keeps management informed of what each and every person in my department is doing. I make sure that all expenses are pre-approved and come within our budget. Requests for furniture, books, luncheons and special supplies are an example of expenditures that are charged to our budget.
I also take care of any problems that come up in the department. It is up to me to seek solutions and work them out with my superiors. I work with my supervisor making sure that contracts are accurate and ready to be presented. I keep spreadsheets on expenses incurred on programs and keep the managers informed. I also keep my managers informed of all changes and make sure that they are enforcing them.
My goal each day is to keep my department running smoothly and give my supervisor the opportunity to do his job with less stress.
Best and Worst Parts of the Job: The best part of my job is seeing that my department is running smoothly and our employees are happy.
The worst part is when systems are down. Computers are wonderful, but when they are down, it is utter chaos.
Job Tips: Be sure that you like working with people and figures. And try to be both open-minded and analytical.
