Job Title: Assistant Vice President
Type of Company: Wealth Management
Education: diploma, Guilderland High School Saratoga County Community College
Previous Experience: I started in operations and moved to management.
Job Tasks: I am currently working to ensure that all correspondence and client-related material meet the company requirements. I ensure that all licenses are current and renewed. Accounts payable -- in and out -- are part of my duties as well and I approve orders, letters, vacations etc. I assist the manager in budget and daily duties and ensure all staff-related issues are covered and communicated.
I attend weekly meetings to distribute new or changing information, work with facilities to maintain branch offices, assist clients with account issues, maintain current files and records and monitor compliance issues.
Best and Worst Parts of the Job: The best part of my job is always being able to help. I enjoy working through and solving a problem. There are always issues and concerns that need to addressed. I love to be in on the decision-making process. It is nice when you can accomplish something to make someone's day a bit easier.
I dislike when there are Human resources issues, when you have to have difficult conversations with employees. That makes for a very uncomfortable situation sometimes. I also dislike when we had RIF's or consolidations. It is a difficult time now in our industry and across the nation.
Job Tips: I would advise anyone looking to join our industry to make sure to think very hard. It is a tough business that is forever changing. It is difficult and rewarding all at the same time. Many people do not succeed and others do very well. Think long and Hard.
Additional Thoughts: I am very surprised at times with the competition. There are many people who have given our business a bad name. People should not judge everyone in our business by what they see on the news. T here are a lot of very bright and talented people whose efforts have been tainted by a small group. Everyone should see the whole picture before judging, and be sure to work hard and stay focused.
