Brand Channel Manager For A Digital Production Company

Job Title: Brand Channel Manager

Type of Company: My company builds websites and sells digital advertising.

Education: BA, Computer Science

Previous Experience: I started as a tech support representative at a call center and moved from that to working on websites and finally ended up managing whole website projects.

Job Tasks: My main responsibility is to follow up on website creation projects by contacting the customer, gathering requirements and then transferring those to the team. Basically, I make sure that the customer's needs are met through planning and executing production items with my team. I have to constantly keep an eye on budget, hours, deadlines, etc. Project Management may be the concept that best describes my job.

In addition to all project related tasks, I also have management related tasks: follow up on lateness and absenteeism, vacations, leaves of absence, corrective actions, disciplinary measures, performance appraisals and much else.

On a typical work day, I receive a lot of emails from my customers requesting me to check on things or clarifying their requirements. I write many emails as well, as I answer my customers' requests, send the work out to the team, follow up on it and ensure that my requests are carried out. I use several systems other than email to track time-sheets and create reports for higher management. At the end of the day, I try to make sure all parties are informed of the project's updates and try to have a clear game plan of what's to be done the next day.

Best and Worst Parts of the Job: The best part of my job is that it's challenging. I always need to be up-to-date on the latest technologies and have good control of processes and people. And it's rewarding. Feels good when a plan gets done!

The worst part is the stress, always an issue in the managerial ranks, but sometimes it can get overwhelming.

Job Tips:
1. Watch out for your project's scope. If you do too many "favors" to your customers you may get into budgetary hot water.

2. Motivation is critical to team performance. So be sure to recognize and applaud people's efforts and celebrate when a project gets done right!

3. Keep people informed. Both your managers and team should always be informed of the project's progress.

Additional Thoughts: A person who chooses this career needs to have very good communication skills. This is what I consider the most important qualification, since you will need to be constantly talking with your customers, then transferring the message to your team, making sure all parties involved are aware of the process and know what to do. Organizational skills are important too, but I do not see how a person who lacks communication skills can be any good at what I do.
