Job Title: Marketing Manager
Type of Company: I work for a restaurant chain as local marketing manager to bring in new customers.
Education: BS, SUNY-Plattsburgh MSN, Catholic University of America
Previous Experience: I was a nurse for twenty years.
Job Tasks: I now come up with marketing tactics designed to increase sales, promote the brand and build community relations. I also find ways to publish and disseminate changes to our operating procedures so their adoption is both consistent and uniform at all our area restaurants. I help to plan and oversee the design of local print advertising, approving designs, color choice and the placement of our company logo.
Best and Worst Parts of the Job: The best part of my job is working from home.
The worst part is all the last-minute design changes and a failure on occasion to meet deadlines. And the bad economy is no help: when sales are down everyone is frustrated.
Job Tips:
1.) Get your Masters while you're still young.
2.) Invest in a 401(k) or an IRA.
3.) Find a job that you like.
4.) Count your blessings and live within your means.
6.) Maintain your integrity, respect, accountability, perseverance & stewardship (IRAPS).
Additional Thoughts: Document, document, document. Having to depend on verbal directives can be frustrating if there's a misunderstanding later on, so have the boss put his ideas in writing. Develop good conflict resolution skills and try to keep the work world in perspective.
