Job Title: Sales Account Manager
Type of Company: Seafood wholesaler.
Education: BA, Liberal Arts, Dutchess Community College (Poughkeepsie, NY)
Previous Experience: I worked in the computer business for 20+ years. But the economy changed and I now work in the fish business.
Job Tasks: I am a sales account manager working with a sales rep responsible for the Connecticut and Midwestern region. I handle all customer orders that come in to my fax or email. I handle all the credit and collections for my region as well. I handle all price quotes and customer complaints on a daily basis. I also handle all our trade shows and any ads that my customers may have. I also am responsible for our quarterly reporting on how well we made our quote for the quarter and what we need to do to achieve our sales goals. I do all follow-up phone calls with customers on a daily basis. I interact with all our sales reps from Connecticut to Florida on a daily basis. I travel to trade shows at least once a month for a few days. I also do taste testing in our test kitchen to see what the public might like out in our market areas.
Best and Worst Parts of the Job: The best part of the job for me is putting the orders into our systems. I really enjoy interacting with my brokers on the phone everyday and talking to different customers all day. The worst part of my job is having to do credit and collections on a daily basis. It is very difficult to get customers or brokers to call you back when they know they owe money. Also doing the quarterly reporting is not that fun: having to do all the numbers and to come up with an explanation of why you fell short. It is easier to do the reports when you make your quota.
