SECTION A - Basic Information

1. Job Title

Examples: "Tax Accountant", "Pediatric Nurse", "Product Marketing Manager", "CEO of small business".


2. Education List colleges, career/trade schools, universities attended and degrees obtained.

Examples: "BA in History, Boston College", "Certificate in Massage Therapy, Mass Health Science Institute"


3. Previous Experience Briefly list previous relevant jobs that led to your current one.

Example: "I worked as a staff nurse in the neo-natal ICU after college in 2 different hospitals. I most recently worked in a pediatrician's office for a few years"

Example 2: "I started as a production engineer for a large telecommnuications manufacturer before moving into systems engineering for the same company. I then was a sales engineer and regional sales manager for a small, growing telecom company."


4. In what state is your job primarily based?

   


5. Organization Briefly describe your company's or organization's primary business or purpose (1-3 sentences)

Example 1: "I work for a school district in suburban Cincinnati"

Example 2: "My company makes private branch exchanges (PBXs). A PBX is the phone system that provides telephone service to people within a company."


SECTION B: Short Essay Questions

While we indicate word minimums for each question in this section, we are looking for at least 300 words overall for questions 6-9 combined.


6. Please describe what you do in your job. (200-250 words) Use examples wherever possible. This will make it much easier for a student to understand your occupation and make it easier to reach the word minimum.

More Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do: Describe a few of your key responsibilities and duties.
  • Do: Walk through a typical day on the job, or elaborate on typical tasks or a typical project you may work on.
  • Do: Write your response at a level that a high school senior or college student would understand and value.
  • Don't use a corporate job description - we're looking for your personal account of your job
  • Don't paste in your resume
  • Don't use industry jargon/acronyms or, if unavoidable, explain any that you do use.

7. What are the best and worst parts of the job? (50-100 words)

8. List 3 or more tips or pieces of advice that you would give to anyone pursuing the same job or career. (50-100 words)

Tip Example 1: "As painful as it may be, take as many courses as you can in data structures"
Tip Example 2: "When starting to launch your acting career, consider doing voice-overs - they are a little easier to get than other jobs and they help build your resume and experience".


9. Please add any additional comments that would help someone considering a career or job like yours. (OPTIONAL)

This section is optional but your response to this question contributes to the 300 word minimum for the section

  • If you could change one thing about how you have approached your career, what would it be and why?
  • What are the most important personal qualities for success in your job/career and why?
