Introduction to Enterprise, Alabama

Enterprise, Alabama, in Coffee county, is 28 miles W of Dothan, Alabama (center to center) and 188 miles SW of Atlanta, Georgia. As of the year 2000 census, 21,178 people lived in Enterprise.

Enterprise History

Enterprise was founded by John Henry Carmichael. He settled in the city in 1881 and established a small store on present day North Main Street. The first post office of Enterprise was established in 1882. The city was incorporated in 1896. The area developed rapidly after the Alabama Midland Railway Company decided to enter the city in 1898. The monument of Boll Weevil was dedicated on December 11, 1919.

You can visit G C Donaldson Park, Enterprise Country Club Lake, and Boll Weevil Monument. The city is also home to many houses of worship including Saint Bulah Baptist Church, Westgate Church, Park Avenue Baptist Church, and Macedonia Church. One can enjoy shopping at the Enterprise Shopping Center, Westgate Shopping Center, Rucker Plaza Shopping Center, Discount Plaza Shopping Center, Morgan Square Shopping Center, College Plaza Shopping Center, and Boll Weevil Plaza Shopping Center. The city also hosts several annual festivals such as the Boll Weevil Festival and Piney Woods Arts Festival.

Air transportation cab be availed from Dothan Regional Airport.

Enterprise Higher Education

Enterprise State Junior College is the local college. Troy State University-Main Campus, Auburn University-Montgomery, George C Wallace State Community College-Dothan, and many other colleges and universities also offer higher educational facilities.
