Overview
The popularity of online education continues to grow as programs evolve and students look for more options to access higher education. The advantages of online degree programs include flexible scheduling and the ability to access programs that may not be available locally. This is particularly convenient for people who work during the day or have other obligations that do not allow them to attend traditional degree programs. Online courses work very similar to campus-based courses; except for the fact that students access the classroom over the internet.
Students typically access lectures and download assignments through an online portal, which acts as the student’s educational homepage. To promote student-teacher and student-student interactions, online programs often have chat sessions where a minimum level of participation is required. For lectures, times vary depending on the course and the teacher. Some teachers require students to attend lectures at specific times, while others allow students to access lectures online at their own convenience. For exams, some courses require students to take tests during specific time periods, while others allow students to submit their work through the portal or by email. For online colleges that have campuses in Arizona, local students may also be required to take tests on campus or at a local testing facility.
