Benton History
The Europeans first arrived in Arkansas during the expedition of Hernando De Soto, a Spanish explorer, in the year 1541. The city of Benton was first settled in 1833. It was chartered when Arkansas became a state in the year 1836. The city was named after Thomas Hart Benton, a Senator from Missouri.
