Texarkana, Arkansas, in Miller county, is 65 miles N of Shreveport, Louisiana (center to center) and 166 miles E of Dallas, Texas. There are an estimated 26,448 people in the city.
Texarkana History
The non-migratory Native American tribes were the original inhabitants of Texarkana. The area was first settled by the Europeans in the 17th century. The area's first post office was established in the 1840s. The Cairo and Fulton Railroad entered the region in the late 1850s. The city was incorporated on August 10, 1880. H. W. Beidler was the city's first mayor. Texarkana is so named because it is located near the boundary of Texas and Arkansas.
