West Helena History

West Helena has its roots in the foundation of the city of Helena in 1833. Helena was occupied by the Union Army before the Battle of Helena, during the Civil War. There are several battle sites in the area which are intact. West Helena consolidated with Helena-West Helena on January 1, 2006. This made Helena-West Helena the the largest city of Phillips County.
