California City, California, in Kern county, is 30 miles N of Lancaster, California and 75 miles N of Los Angeles, California. The city is included in the Bakersfield metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 8,385 people lived in California City.
California City History
California City began when Nat Mendelsohn purchased 80,000 acres of land on which to build up a city in 1958. The city developed very quickly and was incorporated as California City in 1965.
