Clearlake History

Clearlake is a part of Lake County which has developed around the 43,000 acre Clear Lake. The area was shaped by volcanic action. The original inhabitants of the area were the Pomo Indians. The first modern settlers were from Europe and they came in the 1850s. The area of Clearlake was incorporated in 1980 by combining Clear Lake Highlands, Burns Valley, Cache Creek and a portion of Clear Lake.
