Fremont Introduction

Located in Alameda County, Fremont is a city of over 210,000 people according to 2005 US Census estimates. This is up less than 10,000 people from the 2000 census. Fremont is the fourth largest city in the San Francisco Bay area. It is located in the southeastern Bay area, approximately forty-five minutes southeast of San Francisco, and 30 minutes southeast of Oakland.

Fremont Neighborhoods

Fremont is a past winner of the National Civic League's "All-America City" award. Five independent towns were combined to form Fremont, and they now represent the districts of Fremont. These former towns and now districts include:

  • Centerville - Centerville now makes up all of north and a major portion of central Fremont. Centerville is known for its sizable Afghan community known as "little Kabul".
  • Irvington - Irvington is a working class neighborhood with two main neighborhoods: Irvington Woods and the Irvington Square. It has many antique shops and restaurants.
  • Mission San Jose - Mission San Jose, which is home to one of the oldest Spanish missions in California, is also one of the 500 most affluent communities in the United States (according to Forbes magazine). Housing in Mission San Jose is expensive.
  • Niles - Niles has a strong "small town" feel. It is known for its annual antique fair and flea market.
  • Warm Springs - Warm Springs makes up the southernmost part of Fremont. It is near the Silicon Valley and home to the headquarters of many high-tech companies.

These five districts are further subdivided into 28 neighborhoods, including: 28 Palms, Ardenwood, Baylands, Blacow, Brookvale, Cabrillo, Cameron Hills, Canyon Heights/Vallejo, Mills/Niles Crest, Centerville, Central Downtown, Cherry/Guardino, East Industrial, Glenmoor, Grimmer, Irvington, Kimber/Gomes, Lakes and Birds, Mission Hills, Mission San Jose, Mission Valley, Niles, Northgate, Parkmont, South Sundale, Sundale, Vineyards/Avalon, Warm Springs, and Weibel.
