King City, California, in Monterey county, is 43 miles SE of Salinas, California (center to center) and 83 miles SW of Fresno, California. The city is considered part of the Salinas metropolitan area.
King City History
King City, a Spanish land grant, was originally known as the King's City. It was acquired by Charles King in 1884. He started a ranch in the northern part of the city and started growing wheat. In 1886, with the help of the Southern Pacific Railroad services, the city began to transport wheat to San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 1911, King City was incorporated and gradually became a thriving business and agricultural community.
