Los Gatos, California, in Santa Clara county, is 7 miles SE of Cupertino, California (center to center) and 9 miles SW of San Jose, California. The town benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns with which it shares the San Jose metropolitan area. Los Gatos contains a population of approximately 28,592.

Los Gatos History

This town was founded somewhere around the mid-1850s, when James Alexander Forbes built the Forbes Mill on the Los Gatos Creek. The area grew into a township, which adopted the name of the mill. The name was changed to the Los Gatos after a land grant from the Spanish. Los Gatos was incorporated in 1887.

Things To Do In Los Gatos

The area is surrounded by a number of bike trails running through the mountains. Biking is consequently a very popular activity. There are a number of parks and wineries which make for entertaining visits. The Castle Rock Falls are beautiful, home to some 50 foot waterfalls. The town also has some great restaurants and shopping areas.
