Oxnard Introduction
Oxnard is located in Ventura County on the Southern California coast. It is slightly over an hour northwest of Los Angeles. Oxnard is the most populous city in Ventura County. As of 2005, the population of Oxnard was nearly 179,000 people. This was up about 5% from the 2000 census.
Oxnard Neighborhoods
Oxnard is divided into seven districts - the Central District/Downtown Oxnard, the Del Norte District, the Northeast District, the Northwest District, the Southcentral District, the Southeast District, and the Southwest District. Some notable neighborhoods include River Park (Formerly Town Center) in the Del Norte District, Fremont North which has housing prices comparable to Oxnard in general and a strong neighborhood council, and the isolated beach community Silverstrand Beach.

As of 2005, Oxnard had 96,269 housing units. 60.1% of these were owner occupied, which is below the average for the United States. Most of the remainder are renter occupied, with 5.8% vacant.

The main drivers of the Oxnard economy are agriculture, defense, international trade, manufacturing, and tourism. Oxnard is located at the western end of the Oxnard Plain, which is one of the world's most important agricultural centers. Port Hueneme, located in Oxnard, is the busiest commercial port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Two large navy bases are also located in Oxnard - Port Hueneme and Point Mugu.
