The county seat for San Bernardino county, the City of San Bernardino, is located in the Inland Empire in Southern California. It is located one hour east of Los Angeles. San Bernardino is a city of nearly 205,000 people according to 2005 U.S. Census Bureau estimates. This represented an increase of approximately 20,000 people from the 2000 census.

San Bernardino Neighborhoods

San Bernardino does not really have neighborhoods with official names. Rather, San Bernardino's neighborhoods have taken the name of their location, or tract. Some of the neighborhoods in San Bernardino include: the Bench or Rialto Bench, Del Rosa, Delmann Heights, Holcolmb Hill, Mountain Shadows, Northpark, Verdemont, and the west side.

Since 2000, two of San Bernardino's schools (1 elementary, and 1 middle) have earned "Distinguished School Awards" from the California School Recognition Program.

Colleges and Universities located in San Bernardino include California State University at San Bernardino, and San Bernardino Valley College.

San Bernardino Economy

The big drivers of the San Bernardino economy are education, health, and social services; retail trade; and manufacturing. Major employers include: Wal-Mart, Stater Brothers Markets, Loma Linda University Medical Center, the County of San Bernardino, and the County of Riverside.

In 2005, San Bernardino's median family income was $34,925, well below the national average in 2005 of $55,832.
