Santa Ana Introduction

Santa Ana is the largest city in Orange County, California, as well as the county seat. Santa Ana is also the ninth largest city in California. It is located in Southern California approximately 40 minutes south east of Los Angeles. The 2005 US Census estimate places the population of Santa Ana at slightly more than 300,000 people. This represents a decline from the 2000 census when the population of Santa Ana was almost 338,000 people.

Santa Ana divides itself into three districts: District I to the north, District II to the southwest, and District III to the southeast. Neighborhoods in these districts include:

  • Santa Ana District II - Neighborhoods in District II include Bella Vista, Bristol / Warner, Casa Bonita, Centennial Park, Central City, Laurelhurst, Metro Classic, Mid - City, Morning Sunwood, New Horizons, Pico-Lowell, Republic Homes, Rosewood Baker, Shadow Run, South Coast, Sunwood Central, Thornton Park, Valley Adams, Windsor Village, and Windsor Village North.

One of Santa Ana's District I neighborhoods, Floral Park, was recognized in 2005 as the "Neighborhood of the Year" by NUSA. Floral Park is a neighborhood of homes that were built in the 1920s through 1950s and is a highly sought after Santa Ana address.

There are also four Catholic grade K-8 schools in Santa Ana (Saint Anne, Saint Barbara, Saint Joseph, and School of Our Lady). Santa Ana is also home to Santa Ana College.

Santa Ana Economy

Big drivers of the Santa Ana economy are manufacturing, retail trade, and service. The largest sectors of the economy from an employment standpoint are: educational and health systems; financial services; government; manufacturing; professional and business services; and trade, transportation and utilities. Santa Ana's largest employers include: Ingram Micro Incorporated, ITT Industries Cannon, OneSource, Orange County Register, and Western Medical Centers.

Santa Ana is home to two Fortune 500 company headquarters - Ingram Micro, and First American Corp.

In 2005, the median family income in Santa Ana was $47,438, which was below the average for the United States ($55,832).
