Santa Clarita is located in Southern California in Los Angeles County. It is 40 minutes northwest of Los Angeles, and an hour and 25 minutes east of Santa Barbara. Santa Clarita is west of the Angeles National Forest.
Santa Clarita is the fourth most populous city in Los Angeles County. As of 2005, its population was 167,047 people. This was up from the 2000 census when the population was 151,089.
