Introduction to Rifle, Colorado
The city of Rifle gets its name from a local story, that a trapper had once left his rifle along a creek in the region; from then on, the city has been known as Rifle. Founded by Abram Maxfield in 1882, Rifle was officially incorporated into the state in 1905.

Rifle is a city with the Ron plateau, forming the gateway to deep canyons, waterfalls, spruce trees, and meadows. The city is dotted with several recreational areas such as the Harvey Gap State Park and the Rifle Gap State Park. The Rifle Mountain Park, which is situated 12 miles north of Rifle, and the Frontier Historical Museum are in the region.
