District Of Columbia Colleges

District of Columbia Colleges Summary

The District of Columbia is so small in land mass that it should not come as a surprise that is has the 4th fewest number of adult education schools and colleges (compared to the 50 states) with just over 20.

However, it has a larger percentage of its residents attending schools (more than 18%) than any of the U.S. states. In fact the next highest state is Utah, with less than 10% of its population enrolled in such schools.

Dorm room occupancy among students is high with just under a third of students in DC residing in college dorms, the 8th highest in the country. DC also has the most demanding colleges in the country in terms of SAT scores, with 25% of their students having an average SAT score of nearly 1100.

There are many well known colleges in DC as well, including Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, American University, and Catholic University of America.

The DC State Board of Education is a newcomer, having only been established in June 12, 2007. It has web page are on the DC government web site at: http://www.seo.dc.gov/seo/cwp/view,a,1269,q,560689,seoNav,|32532|,,,.asp.
