Tallahassee Introduction
Tallahassee is the capital of Florida, as well as the county seat for Leon County. Tallahassee is located in northern Florida, less than an hour from the Georgia border. It is two and a half hours east of Jacksonville, and two hours northeast of Panama City.
Tallahassee Neighborhoods
Some of the most upscale developments in or around Tallahassee are on northeast Leon County. Affluent neighborhoods include Bobbin Trace, Golden Eagle, Highgrove, Ox Bottom, Rose Hill, and Summerbrooke. Northwest Leon County also has areas of upper-income homes with neighborhoods such as Pine Tip Hills.
In southeast Leon County, the planned community of Southwood is taking shape with new homes, town homes, apartments and commercial space. Southeast Leon County also includes more rural subdivisions. Southwest Leon County is known for its affordable homes under $100,000 in neighborhoods such as Jake Gaiter Estates, Liberty Park, Mabry Manor, and Seminole Manor.

In 2006, 4 of Leon County's public high schools were ranked in the top 200 in the United States by Newsweek magazine.
