Overview
Online degree programs provide another option for people looking to further their education. Online education allow students to take courses with flexible scheduling and to access programs that may not be offered at local colleges or universities. Online programs include Business and Management, Education and Teaching, Medical Administration, Computer Science, Security and Law Enforcement and Family and Social Work to name a few. In online degree programs, students can take classes anywhere they have access to the internet.
To access the classroom, students typically use an online portal to attend lectures as well as download assignments and other handouts. These portals are also used for online chat sessions that are designed to promote student-teacher and student-student interactions. For lectures, some courses have set times that students must attend, while other courses have flexible scheduling where students can download the lectures and study on their own time. Exam types also vary by course and teacher. Some classes allow students to submit tests through the portal (or email) by a specific time, while other classes, require students to take tests online during a set time period. If the online degree program is connected to a local Georgia college or university, students may also have access to teachers on campus during office hours.
