Peachtree City, Georgia is 27 miles SW of Atlanta, Georgia. It is in Fayette county. The city is part of the Atlanta metro area.
Peachtree City History
The area on which Peachtree City stands today was originally occupied by the Woodland Era Indians. During the 1950s, real estate developers bought 12,000 acres of land in Fayette County in order to develop a planned community. Lake Peachtree was created in 1957 when a dam was built on Lake Flat Creek. The City of Peachtree was chartered in March of 1959 and the first police and fire departments were built in 1965.
