Hickam Housing History
Hickam Housing is located in Honolulu County, which was founded on April 30, 1907. The Army Air Corps constructed an airdrome in this area in 1934. It was completed on September 15, 1938, and was named after Lieutenant Colonel Horace Meek Hickam. It suffered extensive damage on December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked the military installations of Oahu. The area also played significant role during the Vietnam War and Korean conflict. Hickam AFB was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in October 1980.
