Pearl City is a CDP or census - designated place located in the Honolulu County. This county was founded in 1907 and was incorporated as City and County of Honolulu. The name Honolulu means sheltered harbor. It was previously named Kou. In 1959, this county was recognized as an example of modern American metropolitan area government by the United States Conference of Mayors. Pearl City is the hometown of Brook Lee, the 1997 Miss Universe; and Jason Scott Lee, the American film actor renowned for his role in the movie Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.
