Fox Lake History

Fox Lake, founded in 1907, was first explored by French settlers in the 1600s. The area, named Nippersink in the 1800s, is located in McHenry County, which was established in 1836. The county, originally a part of Cook and LaSalle Counties, was named in honor of Major William McHenry. The village of Fox Lake was incorporated in 1907.
