Island Lake, Illinois, in Lake county, is 14 miles NW of Palatine, Illinois and 40 miles NW of Chicago, Illinois. The village’s population is approximately 8,153.
Island Lake History
After the Great Depression, the National Mortgage Company took control over this area and developed it as Island Lake Estates, attracting a vast number of settlers. Island Lake was incorporated on June 23, 1952.

Local museums include the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, the Elgin Area Historical Society and Museum, and the Lake County Discovery Museum. The Illinois Beach State Park offers swimming, hiking, biking and camping opportunities, and is accessible from Island Lake. The Deerfield Historic Village houses a museum and the Casper Ott Log House, which is the oldest building in Lake County.
