Introduction to River Grove, Illinois
River Grove, Illinois, in Cook county, is 3 miles NW of Oak Park, Illinois and 10 miles NW of Chicago, Illinois. The village benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns with which it shares the Chicago metropolitan area. River Grove has a population of approximately 10,668.
River Grove History
In 1905, the Norge Ski Club purchased land in Fox River Grove and erected a ski jump on the land where the village of River Grove stands today. River Grove was incorporated in 1919 and in the same year, Louis Cernocky, Sr., a Czech immigrant and harnessmaker, established Louis's Place, a Bohemian restaurant and bar.
