Introduction to Roscoe, Illinois
Located in Winnebago county, Roscoe, Illinois, is 10 miles NE of Rockford, Illinois (center to center) and 70 miles SW of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The village is included in the Rockford metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 6,244 people live in Roscoe.
The first settlers of Roscoe arrived in 1835 and set up an establishment along the Rock River. Soon after, Roscoe became a stopover for travelers heading westward; as well, the inter-urban railroad helped in the development of Roscoe. The area was officially incorporated as a village in 1965.
