A three mile linear park, Historic Rt 66 - A Geographic Journey, is being developed along the old 'Mother Road.' A US map showing the path of Route 66 has been painted on the roadway, gardens have been planted at intersections, benches installed, a thirty foot bridge built, more than 200 trees and shrubs planted, eight 4' x 8' murals have been installed describing the states the old road passed through, two Eagle Scout projects displayed, and much more.
All this has been done with donated labor and funds. The path has become a poplular walking and biking trail for local citizens and for visitors from all over the United States and the world. A registration book located at the gateway entrance to the park coming off Interstate 55 shows visitors from almost all 50 states and from five continents. People passing through this area should allow time to visit this exhibit.
