Vernon Hills History
Vernon Hills was founded in 1851 as a 200 acre farm. Development was sluggish until a part of the land was bought in 1950 for the development of a golf course and a residential community. The area was named Vernon Hills around the same time. It was incorporated as a village in 1958. In 1971, an additional plot of land was annexed to Vernon Hills, where a huge commercial hub named Hawthorn Center was built. This helped facilitate rapid development of the area.
