West Dundee, Illinois, in Kane county, is 4 miles N of Elgin, Illinois and 36 miles NW of Chicago, Illinois. As of the year 2000 census, 5,428 people lived in West Dundee.

West Dundee History

John Elder and Nancy Oatman established up a tavern and a store in this area in 1835. They organized a lottery in order to determine who would name the town. Alexander Gardiner won the lottery and named it Dundee after his hometown in Scotland. West Dundee was incorporated in 1867.
