Introduction to West Dundee, Illinois
West Dundee History
John Elder and Nancy Oatman established up a tavern and a store in this area in 1835. They organized a lottery in order to determine who would name the town. Alexander Gardiner won the lottery and named it Dundee after his hometown in Scotland. West Dundee was incorporated in 1867.
