Located in the southwest portion of the Blackford county, Hartford City is its county seat. Initially, the town was a small farming community. The late 1880s witnessed industrial boom in the area, owing mainly to the discovery of natural gas resources. This transformed the village from an agrarian economy to an industry-based economy.
