Introduction to Kokomo, Indiana
A trading post for European-Americans and Native Americans was set up in this area in the early 19th century. The first trading post was established by David Foster in Howard County. Foster donated about 40 acres of land in 1844 to be used for the creation of a county seat in Kokomo. The City of Kokomo was incorporated in 1865. Kokomo has also been known as the "City of Firsts," because it has been home to many important inventions.
