Introduction to Logansport, Indiana
Logansport, Indiana, in Cass county, is 35 miles NE of Lafayette, Indiana and 69 miles N of Indianapolis, Indiana. The city has a population of 19,684.
Logansport History
The area now known as Logansport was originally inhabited by Native Americans. It was named after James Renich Logan, a Shawnee soldier who served the U.S. forces as a scout in the War of 1812. The area was first settled by Europeans in 1826, and the Wabash and Erie Canal reached the city in 1837. The historic Michigan Road that runs through the town significantly improved communication and led to population growth as well. Logansport was incorporated in 1938.

Logansport has numerous parks and playgrounds including Bishop Park, Dykeman Park, Patriot Park, Tower Park, Fairview Park, Riverside Park, and Ramp and Rail Park. Seiberling Mansion, which is the home of the founder of Diamond Plate Glass Company, is a popular historical site. Opportunities to play golf are available at the Dykeman Municipal Golf Course. The Cass County Historical Society Museums, Cass County Carousel and Cole Clothing Museum are also nearby.
