Because of its size, Buffalo Center is a great place to raise children. People know their neighbors and watch out for them.

It is also a great place to live because of its location halfway between Des Moines and the Twin Cities in Minnesota. We are just a tad bit over two hours driving time from a large city.

And you can get just about anything you want right here in town. We have a satellite clinic, two dentists, a chiropractor, two lawyers, two realtors, a bank, two insurance agencies, a tire store, an auto parts store, a farm implement dealer, a bakery, a shoe store with shoe repair, an accounting firm, two computer shops, two appliance dealers, a grocery store and deli, a bowling alley, three bars, five restaurants, six churches, a town library, a post office, a town swimming pool, four city parks, a furniture store, a flooring business, an electrician, a plumber, a greenhouse, an elevator, a floral shop, a hardware store, a quilting business, a local newspaper, a graphic design shop, a lumberyard, a veterinary clinic, three seed dealers, a tire store, a farm tractor and small engine repair shop, a nursing home, two auto repair shops, two car dealerships, a body shop, a barber shop, two gas stations, an automated carwash, a fitness center, a convenience store, a barber, a day care center, our K-12 school system, and in lieu of a motel, we have three separate rental houses that can be rented by the day, week, or month.

In 1892, Buffalo Center became incorporated and in 1898, we built the very first consolidated school west of the Mississippi! We celebrated our Centennial in 1992. Each July 4th we hold an annual Independence Days celebration with fireworks that draws people from all over North Iowa and beyond. And in mid-December, we hold our Old-Fashioned Christmas in Buffalo Center with thousands of dollars in giveaways!
