De Witt, Iowa, in Clinton county, is located 20 miles N of Davenport, Iowa (center to center) and 148 miles W of Chicago, Illinois. As of the year 2000 census, 5,049 people lived in De Witt.
De Witt History
De Witt was named after an early American politician called DeWitt Clinton. He also served as U.S. Senator and became the Governor of New York on July 1, 1817. It is located in Clinton County, which was established on December 21, 1837. De Witt is the hometown of David C. Hilmers, the NASA astronaut.
