The city of Iowa falls was named after the falls on the Iowa River. It is a city in the Hardin County, which was founded in 1851 and named after Colonel John J. Hardin who died in the Mexican War.

The Dumont Historical Museum is worth taking a look around. At the Hardin County Historical Farm Museum tourists can learn about the history of the agricultural business and life of the families of Hardin County from 1850 to 1950.
