Mount Pleasant History

Mount Pleasant is the county seat of Henry County. The county was founded in 1836 and was named after the governor of the Wisconsin Territory, General Henry Dodge. The Iowa Wesleyan College was founded in the city in 1842. Mount Pleasant was the site of the National Almanac - sponsored solar eclipse expedition, which occurred on August 7, 1869 under the supervision of James Craig Watson.

Things To Do In Mount Pleasant

While in Mount Pleasant, tourists can visit the Midwest Old Threshers Heritage Museum. The Lake Darling State Park is an ideal destination for enjoying family picnics. It has facilities for camping and boating. You can also visit the Pioneer Church School Historical Marker and the other local parks like the Saunders Park. The city also has a number of churches. Every year, Mount Pleasant also hosts the Henry County Fair in the month of July and the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in August.
