Storm Lake, Iowa, in Buena Vista county, is located 61 miles E of Sioux City, Iowa (center to center) and is 102 miles N of Omaha, Nebraska. There are an estimated 10,076 people residing in the city.
Storm Lake History
Storm Lake is the county seat of Buena Vista County, which was founded on January 15, 1851. The county was named after the Battle of Buena Vista of 1847. The Buena Vista University was also established in the City of Storm Lake in 1891 as Buena Vista College. The city is also home to a large hog slaughterhouse of Tyson Foods and a turkey processing plant of Sara Lee.

Storm Lake is home to Living Heritage Tree Museum and Buena Vista County Historical Museum. You can also visit the Prairie Log House and Harker House. The Scout Park, Circle Park, Frank Starr Park, and Emerald Park are also worth taking a look around. Golf lovers can enjoy their free hours at the Storm Lake Golf Course and Newell Golf Park. The city also has many houses of worship including the Schaller Memorial Chapel, Saint Mark Lutheran Church, Saint John Lutheran Church, and Faith United Assembly of God Church.
