Fort Scott History

In the years 1842 - 1853, the U.S Army established the Fort Scott. The fort buildings were purchased by the local settlers, once they were abandoned by the army. Thus, the former military post turned into the center of a town in the Kansas Territory. Fort Scott became a U.S Army district Headquarters, during the Civil Wars. Post the Civil War, the Fort Scott turned into one of the largest city in Kansas. Fort Scott has emerged as an small industrial, agricultural, and insurance center through the years.
