Fort Scott History
In the years 1842 - 1853, the U.S Army established the Fort Scott. The fort buildings were purchased by the local settlers, once they were abandoned by the army. Thus, the former military post turned into the center of a town in the Kansas Territory. Fort Scott became a U.S Army district Headquarters, during the Civil Wars. Post the Civil War, the Fort Scott turned into one of the largest city in Kansas. Fort Scott has emerged as an small industrial, agricultural, and insurance center through the years.

Things To Do In Fort Scott
Visitors to the city may take a trip of the Bushwhacker Museum, which has a collection that relates to the history of Confederate guerrillas. They can also enjoy the local festivals like the Bourbon County Fair, which is held in the month of July; or participate in the Echoes of the Trail Cowboy Gathering, which takes place around the month of June every year. One can also organize picnics and enjoy some physical activities in the Gunn Park.
