Independence History

The city of Independence was founded on the land which was taken from Osage Nation. A group of men who were headed by R.W. Wright were the founders of the city. The city was initially home to wealthy families who indulged oil and gas business. Independence was incorporated for the first time in the year 1870. In 1871, Independence was reincorporated as a city.
