Shawnee, Kansas, in Johnson county, is located 4 miles NW of Overland Park, Kansas (center to center) and is 8 miles SW of Kansas City, Missouri. The city is conveniently located inside the Kansas City metropolitan area, and has approximately 47,996 residents.
Shawnee History
Shawnee is in Johnston County and was founded in 1855. The county was named in honor of Rev. Thomas Johnson and is among the first counties to be established in the Kansas Territory in 1855. In 2008, Shawnee became the 39th best place to live in USA, according to the Money Magazine.
