De Ridder History
DeRidder was named after Ella DeRidder, who was a relative of a Dutch railroad financier. Initially, it was called Schovall and Deridder. In the year 1897, the first train line was set up to serve DeRidder. The city was incorporated in 1903. During that time, the prime industry of the area was timber. In 1906 the first bank was opened in DeRidder. The city was made the seat of Beauregard Parish in October 1912.
