Hammond, Louisiana, in Tangipahoa county, is 37 miles N of Kenner, Louisiana (center to center) and 44 miles NW of New Orleans, Louisiana. The city has a population of 17,639.

Hammond History

Hammond is named after Swedish immigrant called Peter Hammond, who first settled in this area in 1818. At the time of American Civil War, Hammond served as a shoemaking center for the Confederacy. The city is also known as the Strawberry Capital of America for being a major shipping point for the strawberries.
