Jeanerette History
Jeanerette was named after John W. Jeanerette, who was a native of South Carolina and came to the area in 1830. It was chartered in 1878. The economy of Jeanerette developed due to the growth of its sugar and cypress lumber industries.

The city is home to many churches like the Mount Calvary Baptist Church and the Church of Christ. King Joseph Recreation Center is an interesting place to visit with one’s family. Every year, the Creole Festival is hosted by the city.
