Kaplan History
Kaplan was named honoring Abrom Kaplan, who established the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in 1896. Abrom Kaplan was a Russian immigrant who founded the community of Kaplan in October of 1902. The first school of the area was established in 1903. The Kaplan Telephone Company began operating in 1916.

Opportunities for water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, boating and picnicking are available at the Cypremort Point State Park. Local museums include the Lafayette Natural History Museum and Planetarium, the Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance and Vermillionville. The Shell Keys National Wildlife Refuge is accessible from Kaplan as well.
