Natchitoches History
The city of Natchitoches is the parish seat in Natchitoches Parish. The city was named after an Indian tribe called Natchitoches, who were the original inhabitants. It was founded in the year 1714 by a French Canadian called Louis Antoine Juchereau de St. Denis. The city is the oldest permanent settlement in the borders of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. Natchitoches, originally served as a French outpost on the Red River.
